2007 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GT Owner' Review

Meet the first 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GT registered to  Mr Sham aka 'Viper' a handsome black machine with a handsome taillights and a handsome rear spoiler

My Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GT (MIVEC 2.0)

The first time I saw this car it was from the spyshot section of the motoring portal Terato.com. The looks really awesome and menacing; shark head, wide body, big ass with huge rims, nice taillights…Impressive kinda look!

Early morning of 9th  Aug, while browsing through the net looking for engine spec. the  MIVEC 2-liter, startled me with another surprise ......the price tag  ! A CBU unit with a tag of RM112K.  Immediately I called up all the authorized dealers in Klang Valley and managed to arrange for test drives; afternoon (Ampang’s Branch) and night time (Glenmarie HO). After the second test drive, my heart & brain mutually agreed this is the Car ! Handed over my booking fee, and was told that would get my car by the end of Sept. To cut short the story - on 16th August late evening I received a call from EON Glenmarie,  4 units had been delivered to Port and I was on the list!!! Could not wait for tomorrow, went to EON to hug  and inspect the car. 'Forced' to take an emergency leave, went to JPJ for registration and luckily  settled within a day. Finally, its mine (despite the title under the Bank’s name hehehehe). Its my first CBU car!

a purposeful rear spoiler please get used to this grill -  a front visage that gives prominence to the 3-diamond logo  inverted-slant nose with trapezoidal grille that defines the new Mitsubishi Motors design identity
broad stance and sporty lines the front end looks muscular please help we cant stop taking pictures of the rear lights..

These are my comment about my new baby Lancer GT:-

Design / Looks

This is one of the major factors why I buy this car. “Garang” looks with full bodykit! the front part looks like GTR-R34, some says S40 or even Mustang…Its wedge-shaped body and its raised beltline add to its speedy character. The sharp cut line across its profile under the door handles gives  a more sophisticated look. Even the spoiler doesn't look out of place, appearing more tasteful than gaudy….Anyhow the design made me fall in love ! The body shell / chassis would be same for Evo X (which probably launch in 2008). No wonder quiet a number of people when they saw my car they  asked me--- “Abang ini Evo baru ke ?”. No further comment

Internal / Inside

Best NAPPA Leather seats, so comfortable and luxury. Door panels designed are acceptable, not that bad. I like the Info Display, brilliant! All in; trip meter, average FC, service reminder, temperature, rest reminder, distance based on fuel in tank. Sports steering (not sure the size) wrapped with leather with audio control buttons. In car entertainment, CD player with MP3 comes with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. Not sure what brand but good enough for my ears. Bigger head room and leg room as compared to my Wira ie. create more comfort ride. Luggage space is as good as my Wira (Aeroback). Almost forgot about the dashboard, very simple and clear. Lots of people complained bout the cheap plastic looks! But heck, why bother you have full NAPPA leather seats for your ass. Be realistic, how often you’ll touch the dash compare to the seat ;)

with this aggressive looks, any man will just sit and stare at this car for all day long  wrapped in sporty, wide-stance styling picture by fahmi
boasting an impressive line of muscular features Even the spoiler doesn't look out of place, appearing more tasteful than gaudy picture by fahmi
clear taillight clusters with chrome reflectors wheel arches ; watch this space, the EVO X will has wider body a complete package for a sport sedan

Engine

MIVEC 2.0. Not an aggressive MIVEC. Bit sluggish on acceleration (initial pick-up), I guess its due to heavy chassis, 18inchers rims (tyres will cost a bomb!) and CVT. 0 to 100 result may not be so impressive but from 100 to 200 you can feel the best of the engine. At this range, you’ll be surprised on the power delivered by MIVEC 2.0, solid ride. In that case, drag or traffic light race is not suited for this car but is fun for rolling start or highway cruising. I’ve burned almost 59liters of fuel within 24hrs due to a heavier right foot. This car already hit 200kmh (NS Highway), 190kmh (Guthrie Expressway) and 180kmh (Elite). Look forward to go beyond 200kmh soon ;)

Paddle shifters with CVT. Drivers who hated auto so much will definitely try to avoid this CVT. I won’t comment further on this except to share the story of two of my brothers' test-drive of my Lancer GT. I’ve given them an opportunity to thrash the car. Both gave similar comments  ie. paddle shifters with CVT, drive like manual or even better coz its eliminate your shifting time

Handling

50-50….50 for comfy, 50 for sports ….I tested uphill to Fraser, the best part was Jalan Kuala Kubu Baru; winding road, sharp corners, fast corners and numbers of hairpins. Despite, I’ve been so viciously taking corners and enjoying the paddleshifters with both of my daughters (1.5 years old and 3 year old) were sleeping soundly at the back seat from the point we took off (Fraser’s Hill) till we reached home (Shah Alam) – off course under the watchful eyes of my wife . Noise and hard suspension, not an issue then.

The car equipped with a good suspension package comes along with the front McPherson sturts and rear multi link system; stabilizer bars, twin port front brakes (16inch discs) and Yokohama Advan tyres (A10). Steering wheel very responsive when taking sharp corners. At fast corners, juz slammed the fun pedal then only you’ll know the best of this car. The brakes as good as it is, happened to me once when I was cruising at 180kmh at speed lane suddenly a lorry in front (bout 150meter gap) try to overtake another big slow moving vehicle, quickly slammed the brake pedal and the car slowed down without any problem. The only problem was my co-passenger freaked out when they saw the lorry made a last minute move.

Based on the fact that this new Lancer is 56 percent stiffer torsionally than the car it replaces and offers 50 percent better bending resistance. It has higher torsional rigidity than even the Evo IX, for instance. Completes the car as Fantastic Sports Machine !

this would be the first thing every boy racer would change - but the Lancer GT already equipped with 18 " wheels 18" wheels wrapped with Yoko A10 halogen headlamps
paddle shifters and audio controls on the steering wheels interior trimming the interior uses a modern and sporty design
color-keyed aero package the multi-info display the 3-diamond logo in a chrome-finished grill

Overall

I’m totally happy with this car! This is not a race car but this is the best sports sedan / family sedan in our market now. BEST in terms of total package with this car you’ll get MIVEC 2.0, marvelous design, superb handling, complete safety package for you and your family, best quality (CBU), 3-year free maintenance (which include; labour, engine oil, CVT oil, etc), 5-year warranty! and yet offers an affordable price.

I’m not sure what I need more from Mitsubishi .Bravo!!! ~ Mr Sham aka 'Viper'

I've bought this new car in Feb 2008. I've also fully accept your comment on this car. It's wonderful and beautiful.

If you still want go-fast practical performance the Evolution 7.5 GTA is a better choice. It gives you go fast performance, plus an auto-manual tranny. But you gotta have at least another 10 K in cash as those GTAs should be close to the 100,000 miles mark already so expect to spend money on maintenance, rubbers, suspensions and other unexpected costs. :)

guys, just asking for opinions. If you have the money... i mean the downpayment for this lancer and .... the other older Lancer,....... Evo 7 (the price is around that also right?, just a tad more expensive), which one do you prefer?... just asking anyways... nice ride there... a black lancer... superb man... enjoy your ride and congrats... it looks awesome....

My son just got his 'Evo' 2 weeks ago. As mentioned, nice car. Only complaint is the noise in the cabin. Too noisy. Maybe it's the 18' wheels.

Have fun...
