Autoincar.com revealed that a MPV version of the Toyota Passo / Daihatsu Sirion will be introduced in Japan by December 2008, under the name Passo Sette / Daihatsu Sirion Ruminous.
Of course this could also point some hints to the long awaited 2009 MPV from Perodua, Daihatsu's outpost in Malaysia. Perodua currently assembles a localised variant of the Passo / Sirion for the Malaysian market under the Perodua MyVi badge (different headlamps instrument cluster, dashboard and center console area). It also exports the same car under the Daihatsu Sirion badge to Astra Daihatsu Motor for the Indonesian market. Previously it was speculated the 2009 MPV would be based on the next generation Toyota Sienta, but as more information is revealed, it looks like the Passo Sette / Sirion Ruminous is a more likely candidate. Unless somebody from Perodua is able to tip us off, this is just speculation. Based on what little that I can gather, the project is known internally as MPC Space.
Turn on the radio and flip through the major news dailies. I wonder if anyone has noticed that the big 2 luxury brands; BMW and Mercedes have been heavily (relative to the previous years) promoting its pre-owned models. BMW is going one step further as its pre-owned models promotion advertorial is done by the principal BMW Group Malaysia itself while Mercedes-Benz's promo is largely a dealer led effort. I am taking this as a sign of the rapidly tanking economy. I could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing so many sales promo ads by premium marques before this. This to me is an unusual pattern, one that could only be taken as a indication of how serious the car market is tanking.
After reading AutoCar UK's John McIlroy piece on Sebastien Loeb’s history making victory went by quietly unnoticed, drowned by the euphoria surrounding Lewis Hamilton clinching the 2008 Formula One World Championship, I felt compelled to add further.
